Price of eggs by president
The average US retail price for a dozen large Grade A eggs, monthly from 1992 to 2026, shaded by the party of the president in office. It was $0.93 at the start of this series and $2.19 in July 2026, with a peak of $6.23 in March 2025.
Egg prices move with supply shocks far more than with policy. The March 2025 high followed avian influenza outbreaks that culled a large share of the national laying flock; prices fell back as flocks were rebuilt. Shading the chart by presidential term shows who was in office, not who was responsible — the same caution applies to every chart on this site.
